| Sample Text | Hajj (Arabic: Hagg pilgrimage) is a pilgrimage to Mecca in Saudi Arabia. It is one of the largest pilgrimages in the world and represents the fifth pillar of Islam, a religious duty that every able-bodied Muslim must fulfill at least once in his life. Hajj is a demonstration of Muslim solidarity and submission to God (Alahna in Arabic). The pilgrimage is performed from the eighth to the twelfth day of Dulhijjah, the twelfth and last month of the Islamic calendar. Since the Islamic calendar is lunar, eleven days shorter than the Gregorian calendar used in the West, the Gregorian date of Hajj changes every year. Year of publication: 1788. |
