| Sample Text | The study of Arabic logic in the West has tended to be confined to the early historical periods, especially the Greek predecessors of Arabic logic and the writings of the basic philosophers, Alfarabi (died 950), Avicenna (died 1050) and Averroes (died 1198). Abu Yusuf Yaqub ibn Ishaq al-Kindi (died c. 870) dictated a brief overview of the entire Organon as the members of that circle composed: an extract of the Category commentary, an extract of On Interpretation, a version of the Sophistic Paralogisms, and probably an early translation of the Rhetoric. The works of Hellenistically influenced Islamic logicians were crucial to the reception of Aristotle's logic in medieval Europe, along with Averroes' commentaries on the Organon. |
