Sample Text Ibn Taymiyyah uses a weak hadith to dissuade people from committing an evil act as long as such an act is known as forbidden in the Sharia. If an act is prohibited in the Sharia, it is acceptable to use a hadith whose authenticity is unknown as long as the hadith is not a true lie. Such a principle is acceptable in everything that Allah is known to have forbidden. Ibn Taymiyyah goes on to explain the term: "It is like the case of Israiliyat (stories related to the Jews). It is permissible to narrate them as long as we know that they are not false for the sake of encouraging or dissuading from what we know that Allah has commanded in our law or forbidden in our law."
