| Sample Text | Literary criticism in Arabic literature has often turned to religious texts, and several long religious traditions in the field of hermeneutics and textual interpretation have had a profound influence on the study of secular texts. This was especially the case with the literary tradition in Islamic literature. Literary criticism is also applied in other forms of medieval Arabic literature and poetry beginning in the ninth century, most notably by al-Jahiz in his Books on Eloquence and Demonstrations and Animals and Abdullah ibn al-Mu'taz in his book on poetics. |
