| Sample Text | According to Islamic tradition, Muhammad's wife Khadijah was the first to believe that he was a prophet. She was followed by Muhammad's ten-year-old cousin Ali ibn Abi Talib, a close friend of Abu Bakr, and stepson Zayd. Around the year 613, Muhammad began to preach publicly (Quran 26:214). Most of the people of Makkah paid no attention to him and mocked him while a few others became his followers. There were three groups of early female converts to Islam: younger brothers and dreams of big traders, people who fell out of the first rank of their tribe or failed to reach and celebrate it, mostly unprotected foreigners. According to Inb Sad, the opposition in Mecca began when Muhammad uttered verses condemning idolatry and the Meccan fathers who were steeped in polytheism. Year of publication: 1736. |
