This book has been divided into eight parts: After finishing the first part, he wrote: “The first of the eight parts was completed on the day...(originally white) of the month of Safar.” He wrote on the footnote of paper (175) “The first twenty-four of the sixty parts.” He wrote on paper (350): “The sixth volume of Fath al-Bari was completed with the explanation of al-Bukhari by the scholar Ibn Hajar al-Asqalani.” This is an apparent error on the part of the copyist because only what comes before and after it is correct. | The last dictation by Imam al-Bukhari for his Sahih was in Bukhara in the year 252 AH, and the dictation before that was in February in the year 248 AH. Since his last dictation is considered a final highlight of the book, we have adopted it as the year of his writing, and some researchers have indicated that the year of his writing of the book is the year 232 AH.

أخبرَنا أَبو العبّاسِ أَحمدُ بنُ أَبي طالب ابن أَبي النعم بن الشِّحنةِ الصّالحيّ الحجّارُ قِراءةً عليْه ونحنُ نَسمعُ، قالَ: أنا أَبو عبدِ اللهِ الحسينُ بنُ المُبارَكِ بنِ الزّبيديّ قِراءةً عليْه ونحنُ نَسمعُ بِدمشقَ في سنةِ ثَلاثينَ وستّمائةٍ، قال: أنا أبو الوقتِ عبدُ الأوَّلِ بنُ عيسى بنِ شُعيبٍ الهرويّ الصّوفيّ قِراءةً عليْه وأَنا أسمعُ، قالَ: أنا جمالُ الإسْلامِ أَبو الحسنِ عبدُ الرَّحمنِ بنُ محمّدٍ ... قالَ: أنا أَبو محمَّدٍ عبدُ اللهِ بنُ أَحمدَ بنِ حمّويه السّرخْسيُّ، قالَ: أنا أَبو عبدِ اللهِ محمّدُ بنُ يوسُف بنِ مطرٍ الفربْريُّ، قالَ أنا الإمامُ الحافظُ أَبو عبدِ اللهِ محمّدُ بنُ إسْماعيلَ بنِ إبْراهيمَ البُخاريُّ الجُعْفيُّ رحمه الله تعالى.
