The last dictation by Imam al-Bukhari for his Sahih was in Bukhara in the year 252 AH, and the dictation before that was in February in the year 248 AH. Since his last dictation is considered a final highlight of the book, we have adopted it as the year of his writing, and some researchers have indicated that the year of his writing of the book is the year 232 AH.

أخبرَنَا الشيخُ الصالحُ بقيةُ المشايخِ أبو الوقتِ عبدُ الأوَّلِ بنُ عيسى بنِ شعيبِ بنِ إسحاقَ بنِ إبراهيمَ السجزيُّ الصوفيُّ ثم الهرويُّ، قدِمَ علينا قراءةً عليْهِ ونحنُ نسمَعُ: أخبَرَكم الإمامُ جمالُ الإسلامِ أبو الحسنِ عبدُ الرَّحمنِ بنُ محمَّدِ بنِ المظفرِ بنِ محمَّدِ بنِ داودَ بنِ أحمدَ بنِ معاذِ بنِ سهل بن الحكمِ الداوديُّ قراءةً عليْهِ ببوشنجَ في ذي القعدةِ من سنةِ خمسٍ وستينَ وأربعمائةٍ، قالَ: أخبرَنَا الإمامُ أبو محمَّدٍ عبدُ اللهِ بنُ أحمدَ بنِ حمويه بنِ أحمدَ بنِ يوسفَ بنِ أعين السرخسيُّ قراءةً عليْهِ في صفرٍ سنةَ إحدى وثمانينَ وثلاثمائةٍ، قالَ: أخبرَنَا الإمامُ أبو عبدِ اللهِ محمَّدُ بنُ يوسفَ بنِ مطرِ بنِ صالحِ بنِ بشرِ بنِ إبراهيمَ البُخاريُّ الفربريُّ بفربر سنةَ ستَّ عَشَرَ وثلاثمائةٍ، قالَ: حدَّثَنا الإمامُ أبو عبدِ اللهِ محمَّدُ بنُ إسماعيلَ بنِ إبراهيمَ بنِ المغيرةِ بنِ الأحنفِ الجعفيُّ مولاهم البُخاريُّ رضِيَ اللهُ عنه.
