The last dictation by Imam al-Bukhari for his Sahih was in Bukhara in the year 252 AH, and the dictation before that was in February in the year 248 AH. Since his last dictation is considered a final highlight of the book, we have adopted it as the year of his writing, and some researchers have indicated that the year of his writing of the book is the year 232 AH.

Chapter on testifying to lineage, extensive breastfeeding, and ancient death. And the Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace, said, “I breastfed me.” He prostrated behind him, except for a man whom I saw taking a palm of dirt and prostrating on it. After that, I saw him kill an infidel, and he was Umayyah ibn Khalaf.
