Chapter on digging the trench: Abu Muammar told us, Abd al-Warith told us, Abd al-Aziz told us, on the authority of Anas, may God be pleased with him, he said: The Muhajireen and Ansar started digging the ditch around the city, and they moved the dirt on their backs, and they said: We are the ones who pledged allegiance to Muhammad * for Islam as long as we remain... Chapter on the virtues of Salem, the client of Abu Hudhayfah, may God be pleased with him... Suleiman bin Harb told us... I heard the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, saying: “They recited the Qur’an from four people, from Abdullah bin Masoud, and he started with him, and Salem, the client of Abu Hudhayfah, and Ubayy bin Ka’b, and Muadh bin Jabal.” He said: I do not know that he started with my father, or with Muadh bin Jabal.
