Date of the copyist’s death: (He was alive in Rabi’ al-Akhir in the year 848 AH) | The last dictation by Imam al-Bukhari for his Sahih was in Bukhara in the year 252 AH, and the dictation before that was in February in the year 248 AH. Since his last dictation is considered a final highlight of the book, we have adopted it as the year of his writing, and some researchers have indicated that the year of his writing of the book is the year 232 AH.

وقَفَ وحبَّسَ وسبَّلَ الفَقيرُ إِلى اللهِ تَعالى: الحاج عُثمانُ بنُ الحاجّ عليّ، على مَن ينتفِعُ بِه مِن المسْلمينَ، وقْفًا شَرْعيًّا صَحيحًا لا يُباعُ ولا يوهَب {فمن بدله بعد ما سمعه فإنما إثمه على الذين يبدلونه إن الله سميع عليم}، وشرَطَ أَن لا يخْرجَ منْه إلى بلدٍ آخَر، وأَن لا يعير منْه أكثَر مِن أرْبعِ كَراريسَ، فَجزاهُ اللهُ خيرًا، وختَمَ لَه بِالسَّعادةِ آمين، ومَن كانَ سببًا في ذلِك كذلِك. آمين
