Praise be to God, whose blessings are innumerable... As for what follows, when time extended... to the time of the two imams... Al-Bukhari and Muslim... and each of them marked his book as Sahih... so I sought the help of God... to abstract what was in these two books... into one book... ... the forty-ninth... that the Prophet, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him, said: “O God, Muhammad is only a human being who gets angry just as humans get angry, and I have made a covenant that you will not break, so no believer I harm or offend or harm. You flog him, so make it an atonement for him and an act of sacrifice that will bring him closer to you on the Day of Resurrection.” This is the wording of the hadith of Abu Hurairah, and the rest of the hadiths are close in meaning. The last of the texts in the Two Sahihs on the authority of Ibn Abbas, may God be pleased with him.
