Notes The last dictation by Imam al-Bukhari for his Sahih was in Bukhara in the year 252 AH, and the dictation before that was in February in the year 248 AH. Since his last dictation is considered a final highlight of the book, we have adopted it as the year of his writing, and some researchers have indicated that the year of his writing of the book is the year 232 AH.

Chapter: How was the beginning of the revelation to the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, and the saying of God Almighty, “Indeed, We have revealed to you just as We revealed to Noah and the prophets after him.” Al-Humaidi Abdullah bin Al-Zubayr told us, Sufyan told us, he said, Yahya bin Saeed Al-Ansari told us, he said Muhammad bin Ibrahim Al-Taymi told me, that he heard Alqamah bin Waqqas Al-Laythi saying, “I heard Omar bin Al-Khattab, may God be pleased with him, on the pulpit saying... saying, ‘Actions are based on intentions, but each person has what he does’.” He intended, so whoever’s migration was for a worldly gain, or for a woman to marry, then his migration is for what he migrated to... ... God’s saying, Blessed and Most High (and We set fair scales for the Day of Resurrection)... Ahmad bin Ishkab told us, Muhammad bin Fudail told us, on the authority of Amara bin Al-Qaqa’, on the authority of Abu Zur’ah, on the authority of Abu Hurairah, he said: The Messenger of God, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him, said: “Two words beloved to the Most Merciful, light upon The tongue is heavy in the scale: Glory be to God and praise be to Him, Glory be to God the Great.
