Notes Alienation, which can be defined in its most general form as "moving away from the essence", manifests itself in the life adventure of Yahya Kemal, like many intellectuals in the late Ottoman period. Yahya Kemal, who grew up in a religious family and environment, became fascinated with the West after a while, and after living in Istanbul, due to his increasing admiration, he went to Paris and moved away from his national and cultural values and adopted a socialist perspective. He even saw alienation as a necessity of civilisation. The second stage of his alienation emerged as he internalized the alienation and developed a criticism against it. After continuing to defend the ideas he developed under the influence of the West for a while, he regained his respect for national values and his nation through his readings in the field of history, made an effort to save Turkish poetry from foreign influences and returned to his own culture. The article discusses how it is possible to stay away from alienation from moral and national values in Turkish society, specifically Yahya Kemal.
