Notes
In addition to the main message they want to give to their readers, narrations carry traces that reflect the dynamics, knowledge, interactions and cultural elements of the society in which they emerged. Narrations related to the hadith inscription contain important details about the materials used for writing. These materials, which provide great convenience in making sense of the narrations on the subject, are capable of creating a systematic literature in themselves. The elements used for writing can be investigated in terms of their physical properties, the time periods in which they were commonly used, and the interactions they were used as a result of. Comprehensively analyzing the writing materials used by the Arabs makes an important contribution to identifying issues that are not expressed in the narrations about the inscription. In addition, this literature reveals the suitability of the news about the inscription to the historical background and allows the evaluation of the relevant narrations. Determinations regarding the existence and use of writing materials also shed light on the issue of writing down hadiths in the early periods. Studies in this field reveal when and to what extent Arabic writing culture possessed the elements that make inscription possible.
