Notes
In this article, the place of Andalusia in Turkish literature before Tanzimat is discussed. In the classical period, the subject of Andalusia did not attract the attention of divan poets. However, Andalusia is mentioned in the Epic of Kerb Gâzî and in the Spanish Embassy. Ziya Pasha was the first writer to give importance to Andalusia during the Tanzimat period. He presented the history of Andalusia to his readers in detail in his work titled "Andalusian History". Thanks to this work, an interest in Andalusian history and civilization, which had not received much attention until then, was created and it caused the intellectuals of the Tanzimat period to become interested in Andalusia. Ziya Pasha included Andalusian poetry and poets in his work titled Harâbât. In his work titled History of the Inquisition, he expressed the cruelty and torture of the Inquisition court against the Andalusians. Ziya Pasha, in his different works, showed the Andalusian civilization as a beautiful example of Islamic Civilization and drew attention to the important role played by Andalusia in the emergence of European civilization.
