Notes All beliefs and civilizations have punished people who committed crimes throughout history. Imprisonment is one of these punishments. The religion of Islam also accepted the existence of imprisonment, and Hz. Since the time of the Prophet, prisons have been used for criminals or those accused of a crime. Islamic jurists differentiated prison places according to the center where the criminal was punished and the severity of the punishment, and they also decreed that the prison place should have certain physical features and that personnel should be employed there. In this article, the types of prisons, their physical conditions, and the characteristics and wages of the personnel to be employed in these places are discussed in terms of Islamic law.
