Notes	Place names; It is a cultural memory that contains knowledge of a region in history, geography, culture, social structure and many other fields. Place names, like other proper names, are generally given for certain reasons, and many place names have various stories. Although physical reasons such as water, plants, animals, earth sciences and human reasons such as personal names, historical events and social issues are the determinants of place names, the giving of some place names is random or uncertain. Türkiye; With its geographical location and physical conditions, it has been the cradle of civilizations for centuries and contains more than one ethnic structure. Nusaybin district of Mardin is the miniature and bearer of this colorfulness in Turkey and has a multicultural and multilingual structure. Nusaybin; It is one of the oldest settlements in the region with its historical texture, geopolitical location and hosting of different civilizations. This richness and differences are also reflected in the place names of Nusaybin. Place names have varied according to the languages and cultures of the civilizations that have prevailed over the centuries, sometimes they have evolved with certain sound changes, and sometimes they have survived until today without any change. In this study, the names of 84 neighborhoods in the Nusaybin district of Mardin were examined semantically. In the research, neighborhood names were titled as physical and human-based; The reasons why Nusaybin place names were given were classified from a semantic perspective. Place names; It has been determined that it is based on natural and physical conditions such as the structure and location of the place, water resources, minerals and stones, plants and animals, and social conditions such as person, nation, clan names, senses, religion and belief, and economic activities. The permanence of place names, their ability to be preserved for a long time, and their ability to be related to the cultural texture of their location give clues about the history, ethnicity, geography, language, belief and economy of the region. In this regard, with Nusaybin, the necessity of place names being cultural heritage will be reinforced.
