Notes The purpose of this article is IV/X. The aim is to investigate whether the Brotherhood of Safa, who lived as a philosophical community in Basra and its surroundings in the 19th century, used mathematics, which they frequently used, as an axiomatic basis for their philosophy in a consistent manner. What makes this investigation necessary is the Brotherhood's claim that mathematics, based on Pythagoreanism, is the basis of all sciences. In order to determine the validity of this claim, the relationship between mathematics and the natural and theological sciences, which the Brotherhood mentioned among the philosophical sciences, is analyzed through some examples in this article. The teleological evidence and its implications, developed by the Brotherhood to prove the existence of God, follow a course from mathematics to metaphysics, as they are based on mathematical calculation, order and balance in nature. This course gives the impression that the Brotherhood placed mathematics at the basis of its thoughts. However, in mathematical references on metaphysical issues such as God's existence, unity, and the emanation of all beings from God, the Brotherhood ignores 0, does not accept 1 as a number, and accepts an ontological hierarchy among numbers. In such statements, it is seen that the Brotherhood did not take into account the developments in the field of mathematics made in its period, and instead remained under the influence of the Pythagoreans. For this reason, the Brotherhood sometimes detaches mathematics from its context and continues to read it based on metaphysical doctrines. This greatly weakens the Brotherhood's claim that mathematics is the basis of all sciences, as it progresses from metaphysics to mathematics.
