Notes
The science of Kalam is a defensive branch of science that tries to ground the principles of faith on a rational basis using definitive evidence and at the same time eliminates the doubts that arise around beliefs. Tawhid, which expresses the existence and unity of Allah among the Islamic principles of belief, has a special importance. Dualist (two gods) beliefs, on the other hand, stand against the principle of monotheism in Islam. With the conquest of Iran in the seventh century, Muslims began to live in the same geography with the Zoroastrian and Manichaean peoples who had dualist beliefs. Manichaeans' concept of God, based on the duality of Light (Good) and Darkness (evil), two eternal opposing forces, posed a threat to monotheistic Islam. Theological scholars, who named the two opposing principles of the Manichaeans as Light and Darkness, criticized their concept of God with rational and narrative evidence. In this research, as a method, firstly the concept of God and cosmology of the Manichaean faith were examined, and then the criticisms directed towards them in the Ash'ari tradition, especially by the scholars of the antecedent period, were identified and evaluated. Our research, which we think will contribute to understanding and interpreting the tradition of Islamic thought, also aims to make the subject known on a local scale and to direct the attention of future researchers to the subject.
