Notes Molla Hüsrev (d. 885/1480), II. During the reigns of Murad II and Sultan Mehmet the Conqueror, he served as a professor, judge and mufti at important levels of the state, and was highly respected for his knowledge, morality and modest life. Molla Hüsrev, who educated many students and wrote valuable works, left valuable treatises on tafsir as well as his existing works on usûl and fiqh. Although he does not have a separate commentary, he has a commentary on a part of Beydâvî's commentary named Envâru't-tenzîl ve esrâru't-tevîl, and commentary treatises he wrote for different verses that have not yet been published. In this important treatise on Surah al-Fatiha, he interpreted the verses in a metaphorical style that can generally be considered one of the characteristics of the Ottoman tafsir tradition. In this small-volume treatise, which does not contain long lexical explanations and rational inferences, there are explanations that cannot be deduced from the literal meaning, but which do not contradict the apparent meaning. Molla Husrev was a highly respected, humble scholar and a person of great moral character who lived during the reign of Sultan Murad the Second and his son Mehmet II the Conqueror. During this period, he wasappointed to different positions as muderris, qadi, and mufti. He had educatedtoo many students and wrote various precious books in Usûl and Fiqh, as well as Tafsir. Although he didn't write a complete and independent Tafsir which covers all the Quran, he made very special contributions to Beydavi'sEnvâru't-tenzîl ve esrâru't-tevîl by writing explanatory texts on some parts ofit. There are also unpublished epistles that he wrote about different verses of the Quran. In one of these epistles, he interpreted Surat al-Fatiha based on Ishariunderstanding which reflects the one of main characteristics of Ottoman Tafsirtradition. In this short epistle which gives no place to long linguistic explanations and rational implications, the author makes interpretations whichcannot be taken from the apparent meaning but also do not contradict it.
