The word Shuū‘r comes from the root ş-a‘-r meaning bristle, feather, hair. There are forty words in different forms coming from this root in the Holy Quran. We see that twenty-seven of these words, mentioned in forty different verses, are in the form of absent and addressed as verbs and thirteen of them are as nouns. Since the derivatives used as verbs are explained with the infinitive şū'r in the tafsir, priority in the study is given to determine the meaning of this word in the dictionary and terminology. The similar meanings of the word Shu'ūr in the sources; It can be said that it is possible to determine it as knowledge and perception based on intelligence, attention and sensitivity, and sophistication. It has been determined that twenty-one of the derivatives coming from the root appear in the verb-i muzârî gâib form with the prepositions mā and lā nefy in different verses. We see that ten of the verses containing the expression nefy-i consciousness are about the past nations, eight are about the polytheists, two are about the People of the Book, and two are about the hypocrites. Two of the three verses containing the derivative in the verb-i muzâri addressee form followed by the preposition lā nefy are about believers and one is about the general. A verse containing a derivative in the verbal verb form with the subjunctive preposition Lev is about the people of Noah, and a verse containing a derivative with the interrogative particle mā is about the believers. We also discussed other words that come from the root as nouns with a certain classification. In our research, we tried to examine the word Shuū‘r and other words coming from the root ş-a‘-r through the verses by going into the sources. Examples of the use of the root in Arabic poetry and hadiths of the pre-Islamic period are also given.
