Although each of the Islamic sciences has had a literature throughout history and has not turned into an independent science, some of the religious concepts have also formed a literature of their own over time. Undoubtedly, this situation shows the importance of those concepts. One of these terms is the concept of bid'ah, which is the opposite of the sunnah. Based on the fact that there are some situations that lead to the emergence of every literature, it is thought that there are some factors that pave the way for the formation of bid'ah literature. In this article, it is aimed to determine the background of the emergence of literature on the term bid'ah. It is thought that such a determination will contribute to the discussions on bid'ah. In the research, an attempt was made to make the above-mentioned determination from the lines of some works written about the concept of bid'ah in the classical period and from the lives of their authors. Considering that examining all works related to the subject would exceed the scope of the article, the study was limited to a brief examination of only five books written in the classical period, which were the firsts of their field, and the biographies of their authors.
