| Notes | “Neighborhood pressure” is a concept that has been intensely discussed in Turkey since May 2007. Every scientist or ordinary person who thinks about Turkish society has encountered the concept in question in some way. Despite creating such intense interest, there is no common understanding among social scientists about what the concept of peer pressure is. The concept could not go beyond the influence of daily political polemics and could not gain a scientific form independent of ideological approaches. In this study, Şerif Mardin's views on neighborhood pressure are discussed taking into account different perspectives. |
