During the War of Independence, Ordu and its surroundings were a very important region. After the Armistice of Mudros, the Greeks took action to establish the Pontus Greek state, with Trabzon as its center. The clergy of the Ordu sanjak provided outstanding services in this difficult and difficult struggle. First of all, they ignited the power of resistance in the soul and self of the Turkish nation. For example; The cleric who enabled the people of Fatsa, who were hesitant in the first days of the life-or-death struggle, to act in favor of the War of Independence was Müderris Abdülhamit (Sarıhan) Efendi. Likewise, Ordu Muftis - Ali Sabri Gürel, Hafız Ahmet İlhami (Bilgin), Yusuf Ziyaeddin Işık Efendi also provided outstanding services in encouraging the people of Ordu to act in favor of the national struggle. Müderris Ahmet, Müderris Salih and Müderris Salim Efendis also supported them in their work. The clergy of Ordu Sanjak, especially those whose names are mentioned, worked in favor of the national movement in the places where they served, took part in Defense of Law Societies, and some of them fought with the enemy on the front.
