| Notes | Repentance is seen as the first of the maqams in Sufism and the first thing that a devotee who enters the sect must do. It is known as the most important condition for a disciple entering a religious order to make a covenant with his sheikh. Promising not to return to past mistakes and regretting what has been done are essential features of repentance. Muharrem Efendi included couplets explaining the importance of repentance in his divan. Repentance, as a situation that a Muslim always encounters in his spiritual life, must be understood well. A Muslim should always resort to repentance without losing hope in Allah's mercy. Being aware of this, a Muslim should always remember to repent to Allah. Repentance is a blessing from Allah that enables Muslims to be spiritually purified. It is for one's own benefit to take advantage of this at every opportunity. |
