Notes
Interpretation, which is one of the most discussed concepts in the history of Islamic thought, surpasses all these attempts at meaning and interpretation due to its semantic expansion and nature. Islamic theologians have frequently used ta'wīl in their own works, which they perceive as a rational, wise and scientific discipline in interpreting and restructuring religious texts. Imam Māturīdī es-Samarkandī is undoubtedly one of the leading Islamic theologians who successfully applied ta'wīl in their own works. According to Imam Maturidi, ta'wil is a scientific discipline that reveals all epistemological and ontological truths related to the relevant concept or text, beyond just a random understanding or interpretation of a concept or text. Te'wîl has a truth that drives people to search for new meanings and discoveries, and even entrusts them with the excitement and self-confidence of co-existence or living together. In this article, the nature, scope, application examples of the concept of ta'wîl, according to Maturidi, one of the early Islamic theologians, and some basic criteria that must be met by the person who will make ta'wîl are pointed out.
