Notes
Şemseddin Muhammed b., one of the distinguished scholars of Turkestan. Eşref el-Hüseynî es-Samarkandî (d. 702/1303) was educated in the Mâtürîdî school and had enough knowledge to evaluate the approaches of philosophy, theology and religions regarding the metaphysical world. He reflected this quality in his theory of knowledge, and while creating his theory of knowledge, he evaluated different approaches related to the subject and chose what he saw as the most accurate in line with his own knowledge or put forward his own unique approach that was different from others. Although Samarkandî exhibited a more Maturidi-oriented approach in his theory of knowledge within the framework of Ahl al-Sunnah data, he created his own theory of knowledge. While doing this, the author considered all the data related to the subject, evaluated their sufficiency and inadequacies, and finally stated his own preference and approach. In the article, Māturīdī's theory of knowledge is emphasized as the source from which the author draws, and Samarkandī's approach to the subject is determined. The author focused on the knowledge theories of the philosophers and members of religion (milliyyun) before him, evaluated the views of the Mu'tazila and Ahl al-Sunnah theological scholars, and created his theory of knowledge by exhibiting his own approach.
