Fasting as a concept is mentioned in ten verses in the Quran regarding different topics. In addition to the aspect of worship, fasting is mentioned as an option instead of financial penalties in the atonement of ihsâr, dividend, killing, oath and zihâr. The dimension of worship is discussed in four places, in the 183rd, 184th, 185th and 187th verses of the Baqara Surah. These verses cover many topics such as the necessity of fasting, that it is not specific to a certain society, the awareness of piety that disciplines life, that it should be within a certain period of time, the excuses for not fasting, ransom and imsak. In this study, the fiqh aspect of the 184th verse of the Surah Al-Baqarah has been evaluated from many perspectives, generally on the axis of the tafsir tradition. In particular, the excuses for not fasting, their scope and obligations, in relation to this verse and the ones that follow it, have been analyzed. In the second part of the study, tâkat discussions and their scope in the context of “يطيقون” were evaluated. The dimension of the provisions was analyzed by taking into account the order of the verses and the arrangement of the words. In the light of this information, an attempt was made to interpret the 184th verse of the Baqara Surah from a new perspective and to make fiqh analyzes about it.
