Notes This article is about the developments in Islamic Theology in Higher Education in Europe, with a focus on Germany. The aim is to identify the developments regarding Islamic Theology in European universities in recent years and evaluate them in the context of opportunities and problems. European states and nations, which have Judeo-Christian-Western values, are looking for ways to ensure that the increasing number of Muslims they have to live with can live in harmony with them. The issue is important for the future of Islam and Muslims in Europe. One dimension of these searches is the efforts to establish Islamic theology programs in European universities. Is it possible to produce an interpretation of Islam that will live in harmony with European values? The question is an important issue that is emphasized throughout Europe, especially in Germany. Academic research and studies in Islamic theology, which started in the 2000s and gained momentum in the last decade, aim to answer this question. The main purpose of Islamic Theology initiatives in Europe is to produce an understanding of Islam that can live in peace with Western European values and to train people who will provide Islamic religious education and religious services with this understanding of Islam. The subject is addressed with text analysis based on the relevant literature and autobiographical methods in the light of many years of experience.
