Notes Ibn Malik, who lived in the 7th century Hijri, is a scholar known in our region (southeast of Turkey) for his work called "Elfiyye", which is mostly related to the science of grammar. However, in addition to dealing with the science of grammar, Ibn Malik also dealt with the science of dictionary, which is not very well known. Lexical science is a very important field as it aims to collect the vocabulary of a particular language. When Ibn Malik and his lexicography are mentioned, one of his works that comes to mind is his work called el-Maksûr ve'l-memdûd. In this work, Ibn Malik discussed the words maksûr and mamdûd in the Arabic language. The work was written in verse. One aspect that makes the work different for us is that it is written in the form of advice filled with wisdom and asceticism from beginning to end. Each couplet in which the maksûr-mamdûd pair is discussed contains ascetic advice. Thus, Ibn Malik brought together asceticism, poetry and language in this work.
