Notes In this article, an evaluation of the studies discussing Pierre Charron's place in modern philosophy has been made since the 1950s. Charron is known as a philosopher who influenced the leading representatives of modern philosophy, especially Descartes. The literature agrees that Charron is an early representative of modern thought. However, while some of the existing studies characterize the thinker as a Skeptic, Stoic or Aristotelian; Others argue that his secular ethics pioneered modern philosophy in establishing the foundations of the human sciences and rationalism. This article aims to create an understanding of the controversial views presented about Charron and to make a critical evaluation of the methods and results of existing studies. As a result of the evaluation, it was determined that the studies examined used two main methods. While some attribute Charron to a certain school of thought; Others discuss the thinker's understanding through a conceptual approach. Our evaluation has shown that these studies fail to fully and consistently explain Charron's wisdom. In order to fully understand Charron's position in the history of thought, alternative approaches that will illuminate his understanding of wisdom are needed.
