Notes
Islamic scholars have made efforts to understand the Qur'anic verses. They achieved this by resorting to more than one method such as rational, narrated, linguistic and rhetorical. Ebû Mansur el-Mâtürîdî, one of the important defenders of Ahl as-Sunnah belief, is one of these scholars. In the study, Imam Mâtürîdî's use of allusion in the interpretation of the verses was discussed in his commentary book Te'vîlâtu'l-Ḳur'ân. In this context, after giving information about Mâtürîdî's life, his faith and Te'vîlâtu'l-Ḳur'ân, the purpose of Mâtürîdî's use of allusion in his interpretations, its frequency and places of use are discussed in a broad framework. In particular, the use of allusion in the verses in which time, space or corporeal elements are attributed to Allah, which paved the way for the emergence of many religious sects, has been examined, and Maturidi's contribution in the context of separating Allah from objects, time and space, according to the views of Ahl al-Sunnah, has been revealed. In order to eliminate the contradiction that seems to exist between the verses and in the verses that lead to fiqh disputes, Maturidi's use of allusion has been examined. In addition, the way Maturidi uses allusion in idiomatic expressions and in matters that are not clearly mentioned in the verses because they are considered obscene in human nature has been revealed.
