Although Turkey's modernization adventure exceeds two centuries, social life still somehow keeps the traditional patterns alive, considering the values, institutions and practices. This study claims that this situation regarding Turkey's social structure can be evaluated through 'asabiyyah theory', one of the important concepts of Ibn Khaldun, and 'social capital', one of the concepts frequently mentioned in the field of social sciences by names such as Fukuyama, Coleman, Putnam and Bourdieu. While the modern lifestyle atomizes and isolates the individual within society, social capital has emerged as a new form of regaining solidarity and cooperation between individuals. Similarly, asabiyyah maintains a community-centered social atmosphere.
