Notes
One of the main themes of folk tales is the relationship between father and son, which appears in such genres as myths, epics, legends and folk tales. Father and son as two opposite characters enter into competition over a conflict and tension in the storytelling of the work. As a result of this gesture, the obstacle created by the father is somehow removed and the son matures and replaces the father. The relationship between father and son has also been included in the theories and definitions of mythologists, and people like Otto Rank, Lord Raglan and Joseph Campbell have used this theme in their interpretations of the hero. Among the Kurdish folklore, there are legends and stories based around this theme, and the story of Hesen, Şêrhesen and Gulperi is an example of those stories. In this work, we analyzed this story based on the opinions of the mentioned mythologists and described the relationship between father and son in the story. As a result, it became clear to us that there is a content balance between the Kurdish and world narratives in terms of the father and son relationship theme, and the story of Hesen, Şerhesen and Gulperi is a moment of this balance.
