Diyâuddîn Ömer er-Râzî (d. 1164-65 [?]), the father of Fahreddin er-Râzî (d. 606/1210), has an active personality in fields such as fiqh, mysticism, rhetoric, literature and theology. This literary aspect of his was also reflected in his theological views. While basing his ideas on the imamate, he also benefited from poems and used them as tools. With the discovery of the second volume of his lost work called Nihâyetü'l-merâm fî Dirâyeti'l-kelâm, extensive information was obtained about his ideas. Diyâuddîn Ömer er-Râzî is an important scholar who accepts the Sunni traditional thought on the issue of imamate, but puts forward different ideas on the subject, reconsiders the views of theology and fiqh scholars living in the previous period in the perspective of the conditions of the period, and offers a theological perspective on the sociopolitical problems of his society and develops solution suggestions. In this study, the necessity of appointing an imam, the qualifications that the imam should have, how the imamate will take place, the possibility of dismissing the imam, the possibility of having two imams in the same period, whether the imam will be appointed by nass or elected by allegiance, Hz. Issues such as who was the most superior/virtuous of people after the Prophet were examined from the perspective of Diyâuddin Ömer er-Râzî.
