Notes	Benjamin Franklin is one of the most prominent thinkers and politicians of America's founding period. It has an almost mythic status in American history. Although he was born in Boston and received only two years of education, by the end of his life he was seen as a representative of the American dream, as he was the most famous American. Unfortunately, Franklin studies were continued with this mythical perspective for many years. Additionally, Franklin has been the target of some intellectual overgeneralizations. Sometimes he has been seen as the spokesman of capitalism and the selfish desire to accumulate, and sometimes as the representative of a soulless and mechanical world. Despite this, Franklin's contribution to the founding of America as one of the founding fathers of America and his place in the Enlightenment movement are more important issues. Studies on Franklin will also deepen Enlightenment studies in terms of understanding different aspects of Enlightenment thought. Even if America is not promising in the theoretical and philosophical dimensions of the Enlightenment, it is a very important experience in terms of the practice of the Enlightenment. The two main dimensions in which this experience will be seen will be moral philosophy and political thought. For this purpose, in this article, Franklin's place in Enlightenment thought and his contribution to the founding of America will be discussed.
