Notes
Zeyrekzâde Emrullah, who lived in the 16th century, was an Ottoman scholar who undertook important duties such as being a judge and a professor. In addition to his duties as judge and muderris, Zeyrekzâde wrote works on fiqh, tafsir, Arabic and historical sciences. One of these works is the treatise called Risâle fî cevâzi ahzi'l-ücreti li-kıraeti'l-Kur'an, which deals with the issue of receiving a fee for reading the Quran. This work is a treatise that deals with the view that it is permissible to receive a fee for reading the Quran in detail with its evidence, but it has not been investigated yet. The author stated that a treatise defending the view that it is not permissible to receive a fee for reading the Quran was written and that the views in this treatise were generally accepted. Zeyrekzâde conveys the views in this treatise and answers these claims without mentioning the name of the work or the author. One of the most important goals of this study is to determine which work Zeyrekzâde wrote this treatise against. In the introduction part of this study, after briefly introducing the treatises on the subject, information is given about the author of the investigated treatise. Information is also given about the characteristics, sources and copies of the treatise analyzed in this study. Finally, the original text of the treatise was published.
