Evliyâ Çelebi, XVII. He is a Turkish traveler who traveled around the Asian, European and African continents in the 19th century. He described what he saw and heard during his travels in a fluent and impartial manner. Our traveler also traveled throughout the geography inhabited by the Kurds, an ancient nation of the Asian continent, and recorded his observations and evaluations in his Travelogue. Çelebi, who named the Kurdish geography in the Ottoman country as Kurdistan, like other Muslim travelers, visited almost every province of this country. He states that he traveled to Kurdish provinces such as Diyarbekir, Bitlis, Van, Malatya, Elazığ, Urfa, Mardin, Erbil, Sinjar, İmadiye and Hakkari, and in one statement, he states that this journey lasted seven years and in another place, it lasted eleven years. Evliyâ Çelebî, who sometimes uses the expression "Kurdistan" and sometimes "Diyar-ı Kurdistan" for the lands where Kurds lived in the Ottoman Empire, also uses the expression "Ekradiyyun State" for the Ayyubids established in geographies such as Egypt and Syria. When he talks about a town or province of Kurdistan, he says "Vilayet-i Kurdistan or town-i Kurdistan". It indicates that some Kurds live in Egypt and that some famous Kurdish figures are buried there. Here he mentions a mosque called Cami-i Ekrad. Evliyâ Çelebî also gives extensive information about the Yazidi Kurds in the Kurdish geography.
