Türkiye aims to reduce its dependence on fossil fuels by investing in renewable energy sources and new energy technologies. It increases the number of wind and solar power plants day by day and encourages domestic production in the construction of these power plants. It plans to increase the number of electric vehicles in traffic and in this context produces its domestic electric car. Due to the structure of these technologies, Turkey's raw material needs are changing and increasing. For the production of wind turbines, solar panels, electric vehicles and energy storage units, critical minerals such as lithium, cobalt, copper, nickel, germanium and neodymium are needed, as well as raw materials that are found in small amounts in nature and are therefore called rare earth elements. However, the supply of these critical minerals is becoming increasingly difficult due to increasing demand on a global scale. Critical minerals cause diplomatic crises and become the subject of new energy geopolitics. Türkiye is one of the countries most likely to experience mineral supply risks with its targets and investments in the field of renewable energy. In this context, Turkey's energy transformation is discussed in the study and the role of critical minerals in this transformation is evaluated. The impact of critical minerals on Turkey's energy security is discussed.
