Notes Imam Māturīdī, who is considered the imam of one of the two living faith/kalām sects of Ahl al-Sunnah and who has had a great impact on the Islamic society to this day with the many works he wrote, was born in the Māturīd district of Samarkand and died in this ancient city in 333/945. Unfortunately, there is not much information about the life of Imam Māturīdī today. has not reached. However, we can reveal the scientific environment and science learning centers of that day in Samarkand, which has been the capital of Transoxiana since ancient times, where this great scholar was born, grew up, grew up and spent his entire life there, with a number of main sources and research works that have come down to us. As a matter of fact, while the existence of madrasas in capital cities and main centers such as Baghdad, Damascus and Cairo is not mentioned, the first examples of madrasah structures are seen in Samarkand and surrounding cities during the Samanid period. During the period when Imam Mâturîdî lived, there were Dâru'l-Cüzcâniyye, Dâru'l-Iyâziyye, Kusem b. We are aware of the existence of madrasahs like Abbas. Again, during this period, we witness that the Samanid rulers placed great value on science and scholars, and that they opened their palaces and the rich palace libraries they created for scholars. As a result, this city, where many religions and thought structures have been protected since ancient times, and therefore a lively cultural environment existed, largely maintained the same feature during the Islamic period. Although this rich cultural structure in the city led to the emergence of many thought structures in the region that were contrary to Islamic belief and creed, it also contributed to the growth of Imam Maturidi, who firmly defended Islam and its doctrinal structure against these contradictory thoughts, and the theologians who followed his path in this city and region.
