Leo Strauss is one of the thinkers who contributed to the debate about what philosophy, especially Islamic-Jewish philosophy, is and how its history should be studied. According to Strauss, who is mostly known for his works on political philosophy, there is a conflict between philosophy and society, and philosophers use a special writing technique in their works to both avoid the harms of this conflict and to continue their philosophical activities. Strauss, who found the first traces of this technique in Plato, thinks that the philosophers who shaped Islamic-Jewish philosophy also philosophized by following this technique. The majority of Islamic philosophy researchers either approach the existence of this technique, known as writing between the lines, with caution or flatly deny the existence of such a writing technique. Despite the doubts about the existence of this technique, it can be claimed that the assumptions on which it is based still find a place in Islamic philosophy research. As a matter of fact, it seems that recent studies about Ghazali are based on similar assumptions. In this study, Strauss's approach will be briefly introduced and the similarities between this approach and Ghazali literature will be tried to be shown.
