Notes Ornament is a complementary component of the structure that enables it to create an admirable effect on the viewers. It is possible to encounter similar practices as a reflection of a fashion in the ornamentation repertoire of architectural buildings in every period. When we look at the surviving architectural works of the states that dominated Mardin in different periods, the existence of style unity is clearly understood. The portal is the most important element in the decoration programs of the buildings, where the stone workmanship is displayed in the best way and adds monumentality to the buildings. These architectural elements, which are the area where the stonemason best reflects his art, are the most striking elements in determining the art style of the period. In our study, the 13th-15th centuries in the center of Mardin. Our examples of mosque and madrasah crown doors from the 19th century are Latifiye Mosque, Melik Mahmut Mosque, Şehidiye Mosque, Hamza-i Kebir Mosque, Zinciriye Madrasa, Kasımiye Madrasa and six buildings. In the study, after the general descriptions of the buildings and their architectural and plan features are briefly given, the portal designs are explained in detail under the same heading. In the evaluation and discussion section, the characteristics of the materials, techniques, patterns and motifs seen in the decoration of the portal decoration programs of mosques and madrasahs are revealed.
