Notes
As a result of the Presidency of Religious Affairs attaching importance to religious services outside the mosque as well as mosque services, it has started spiritual guidance services by making protocols with various institutions. One of these institutions is the Penal Institutions. Since 1950, religious services have been provided in various forms in Penitentiary Institutions. With the signing of a new cooperation protocol between the Ministry of Justice and the Presidency of Religious Affairs in 2011, the scope of the service provided was further expanded; In addition to religious services provided to detainees and convicts, spiritual guidance services have also begun to be provided. The main purpose of this research is to reveal the opinions and experiences of prison chaplains who work/have worked in Penal Institutions in Kayseri, regarding spiritual guidance and religious services practices. Qualitative research model was used in the research. Qualitative data were collected within the framework of a semi-structured interview protocol. In this context, face-to-face in-depth interviews were held with five prison chaplains who work or have served in the Penitentiary Institutions in Kayseri. Descriptive analysis technique was used to analyze the data obtained as a result of the interviews. The findings were evaluated in the light of the literature, and various suggestions were included in the conclusion.
