Bedreddin ez-Zerkeşî (d. 794/1392) is a versatile scholar who was born in Cairo during the Bahri Mamluk period, grew up there and wrote more than sixty works in almost every field of Islamic sciences. He was known for his fondness for science and research throughout his life and lived a simple life. Zerkeşî managed to make a name for himself with the important works he produced in the science of hadith as well as in the science of the Quran and fiqh. For the first time, he collected the words known as hadith among the public but were not the original in one work, the tahrij works he compiled on the hadiths in important fiqh works, the commentaries he wrote on Bukhari's Sahih, his involvement in the hadith discussions of the period by writing jokes on Ibn al-Salah's Introduction with the leading names of hadith studies, and many other issues. As Ibn Hajar also stated, it shows that he was very busy with the science of hadith and his knowledge of this science. Zerkeşî is a scientific figure who lived a short but scientifically fruitful life and made important contributions to almost all fields of Islamic sciences, especially fiqh and hadith. In this study, we will try to evaluate his life as well as his hadith studies, based on the works he compiled on the science of hadith.
