Notes
The fifth century of Hijri is a period in which important figures in Islamic sciences whose influence has survived to this day were raised and basic sources were compiled. During this period, one of the scientific figures who wrote works in almost every branch of Islamic sciences was Beyhakî (d. 458/1066). It is understood from Beyhaki's works that he was not insensitive to the scientific and intellectual issues of his time. One of the current debate topics of this period is the issue of God's attributes. The discussions that took place within the context of the subject had serious effects on the political and religious history of Islam. The impact of these discussions was also reflected in the hadith sources, and a literary genre around this issue was formed in the hadith literature from the early period. Some of the works compiled in this field are named as al-Asmâ ve's-sıfât. Beyhakî also wrote his work called al-Esmâ ve's-sıfât in order to strengthen the evidence of Ahl as-Sunnah and eliminate bid'ahs. In this article, Beyhakî's place in the history of Islamic sciences is pointed out, his work named al-Esmâ ve's-sıfât is examined in terms of content and method, and Beyhakî's approach to the revealed attributes of Allah is tried to be determined in the context of this work. In this context, answers are sought to the following concrete questions. “Does Bayhakî adopt the dominant view of the Ahl al-hadith in the first four centuries regarding accepting, understanding and interpreting the indicative adjectives?”, “Is his approach to these adjectives different from the Ahl al-hadith?”, “What is his influence on the hadith scholars after him in this regard?” In the article, it is revealed that Beyhaki accepts the ambiguous words such as vech, 'ayn, yed, which are mentioned in the Quran and sunnah and attributed to Allah, as adjectives and interprets these adjectives.
