Conjunctions and prepositions are very important in Arabic, as in every language, in terms of connecting sentences together and perceiving the meaning. The content and functions of prepositions and conjunctions vary depending on the situation. One of the most commonly used prepositions in Arabic is the preposition "La". This preposition has five different types depending on its use in the sentence. There are two types of verbs called "an-nâfiye" (indicating negation) and "an-nâhiye" (used for negative imperative verbs). Similarly, there are also forms that act as "ليس/Leyse" and invalidate the entire type (en-nâfiye li'l-cins). There is another type of “Lâ” called “zâide” (excess), but this type is not frequently encountered in texts. It is considered that the last type is included in expressions for the purpose of emphasis and reinforcement. Each of the different types of the preposition “la” has special conditions and meanings. As a matter of fact, the preposition "La" is used 165 times in different functions in Surah Al-Baqara alone. This article discusses in detail the characteristics of the preposition "La" and how it is used in Surah Al-Baqara.
