| Notes | The book deals with the participation of the Ottoman Empire in the so-called 'Plunder of Africa' and the effects of the empire's activities in this context on the imperialism practices carried out on its southern borders in Africa and Arabia. It is stated that at the 1884-85 Berlin Conference, the Ottoman Empire took its place as an imperial power and was willing to have a say in the sharing of Africa. Contrary to the general discourse, it is emphasized that the empire was not a victim of 19th century imperialism, but rather an actor. |
