Notes Natural gas is an energy source that can be found in nature without being subjected to any process, but is found in certain regions of the earth where its access, extraction and distribution require different technical activities. Safe storage and distribution of this resource are critical regulations for energy security and stability. Natural gas storage obligation is a regulation that generally obliges energy suppliers to store a certain amount of natural gas. Although the main purpose of this obligation is to respond quickly to increases in demand as well as emergencies, to ensure security of supply and to maintain stability in energy markets, the achievement of all these issues also requires the existence of a liberal natural gas market. Effective implementation of the regulations regarding natural gas storage obligation, constant review and harmonious updating of these regulations are of great importance in terms of adapting to the changing conditions in the energy sector. Otherwise, natural gas suppliers may face difficulty in performing their obligation to store natural gas.
