Notes Moving from a social psychological perspective, this study discusses how prejudice and conflict between religious groups and communities affect religious thought. Religious thought is shaped by feeding from many different sources. Interpretation of basic religious texts, sociocultural environment, interaction with other religious structures and individual factors may pave the way for the development or stagnation of religious thought. The spirit of the time is also decisive in this regard. The understandings of individual and society brought about by the modernity and postmodernity periods transform believers' perceptions of religion and religiosity. This transformation inevitably has an impact on religious thought. Especially in the world evolving from modernity to postmodernity, every religious group is trying to build its own reality with a conflictive discourse. This construction process may affect religious thought positively or negatively, depending on its location and situation. While positive conflict assumes a founding and constructive function in the construction of religious thought, negative conflict can be destructive and disintegrating. The conflictive approach observed among religious groups today does not contribute to the development and enrichment of Islamic thought, and even has a negative and destructive effect.
