Notes	Every work of art bears the characteristic features of the society from which it emerges. In these features lie national contemplation, feeling and reflexes. Divan poetry is one of the most mature arts that emerged during the Ottoman period. This study shows that Divan poetry is a source in many aspects. It can offer personal and social interpretations of historical events; It can shed light on the psychological reality behind the events; It can reflect the thoughts, feelings and reflexes of the Ottoman State and society. Along with these, this study also questions some issues: Is Divan poetry an art that emerged and died out in a certain period of time? Does today's state have nothing left to say to society and individuals? What are the Ottoman principles that have been reflected from Divan poetry to the present day, and have they not been inherited by people living in this age? In the light of these questions, analyzes and comments on the case studies were developed. The issues in question in Divan poetry are supported by the prose texts of the period.
